II.  AMRAZ-E-AIN (Diseases of the eye)

1. RAMAD (Inflammation of the Conjunctiva)

It is the inflammation of the covering membrane of the eye. The eye becomes red and sore alongwith lacrimation and photophobia. There is sticking of the eyelids due to purulent discharge.

Prescription No. 1

Method of preparation  : Fry and make a fine powder.

Administration            : Apply in the eyes twice daily.

Prescription No. 2

Method of preparation  : Boil in 180 ml. of water, strain and sweeten with sugar.

Administration            : Twice daily.

Prescription No. 3

Method of preparation   : Grind with water to make a paste.

Administration              :  Apply the paste on the outer eye-lids at bed time.

Prescription No. 4

Method of preparation     : Dissolve the first two drugs in rose water, filter and preserve in a clean glass bottle.

Administration               : Use as eye drops, 2 drops in the morning and evening.

Prescription No. 5

Method of preparation     : Dissolve the first two drugs in rose water, filter and preserve in a clean glass bottle.

Administration               : Use as eye drops. Two drops in the morning and evening.

Prescrription No. 6

Method of preparation  : Make a fine powder, add 350 ml. of water, boil and strain.

Administration            : Soak a piece of cloth in the decoction and foment the eyes.

2. ZOGF-E-BASAR( Weakness of the sight)

Prescription No. 1

Method of preparation   : Soak lodh pathani in rose water for two hours, strain and preserve in a clean glass bottle.

Administration              : Use as eye drops. Two drops in the morning and evening. This may be used in Ramad also.

Prescription No. 2

Method of preparation   : Make a cut in the trunk of a Neem tree. Keep Sang-e-Surma in it for on week and then take it out. Boil the sonf in 250 ml. of water and strain. Powder Sang-e-Surma and add a little decoction, then grind in a mortar till the decoction is absorbed. This should be repeated till the whole decoction of sonf is absorbed and a fine Surma is prepared.

Administration            : Apply in the eyes at bed time

Prescription No. 3

Powdered Tripqahala

Administration  : 3 g. with water twice daily.

Note                 : Soak Triphala in water over night and wash eyes with this water in the morning.

Prescription No. 4

Method of preparation   : Make a fine powder in a mortar.

Administration             : Apply as surma at bed time.

Prepared Medicines :

1 Kohl-e-Jawahar     To be applied in the eyes at bed time.

Note : All drugs which are applied in eyes should be powdered finely and properly sieved.

3. JARAB-UL-AJFAN (Rohey) (Trachoma)

It is an infectious disease with inflammation of the covering membrance of the eyes and eyelids. Sago-like granules are found on the inner surface of the eyelids. Pain, redness and lacrimation are also present. If not treated properly blindness may result.

Prescription No. 1

Method of preparation  : Put laung and ghee in a brass plate and rub it with the backbone of a tortoise to make a fine paste.

Administration            : Apply in the eyes in the morning and evening.

Prescriotion No. 2

Chaksu         Q.S.

Method of preparation : Peel off the outer skin of the drug. Take the kernel and make a fine powder.

Administration           : Retract the eyelid and gently rub the powder on it.

Prepared Medicines :

Note : Applying a copper roll (Salai) in the eyes is also useful in trachoma.

4. SHA'EERA 9Gohanjani) (Stye)
It is an abscess in the follicle of eye lashes with pain and hardness.

Prescription No. 1

Laung     1 number.

Method of preparation : Rub with water to make a paste.

Administration           : Apply on the nodules.

Prescription No. 2

Method of preparation  : Boil in 250 ml. of water and prepare a decoction.

Administration            : Soak a piece of cloth in the decoction and repeatedly use as fomentation on the nodules.

Prescriotion No. 3

Method of preparation : Rub any of the above drugs with a little water to make a paste.
Administration           : Apply on the nodules.
