Immigrant related Frequently Asked Questions
I am a green card holder and filed a petition
for my parents. Can my siblings under 21 years of age immigrate
with my parents?
The
fourth family-sponsored annual allotment of 65,000 visas,
plus any visas not used by the first three family-sponsored
preference groups, is made available to qualified immigrants
who are the brothers or sisters of U.S. citizens. The US citizen
sponsor must be at least 21 years old. This category has a
very long backlog, making it very difficult to bring siblings
to the United States.
You may want to consider using a series of immediate relative
petitions, which although time consuming, might be faster
than the fourth family-sponsored preference. For example,
since you have sponsored your parents as immediate relatives,
once your parents become permanent residents, your parents
can then sponsor your siblings, in their own right, as children
of permanent residents, having immediate relative status,
for whom visas are always available.
